Run the River is a flat, fast and scenic Brisbane running event starting from Brett’s Wharf Plaza and following the Brisbane River towards the city. With smooth pathways, iconic waterfront views and a vibrant race-day atmosphere, this event offers distances for runners of all ages and abilities — from first-time participants to seasoned competitors.

FAQ’s

Where does the event start and finish?

All races start and finish at Brett’s Wharf Plaza, Brisbane. The course follows the Brisbane River towards the city on flat, sealed pathways.

What distances are available?

Run the River offers four distances:

  • Half Marathon (21.1km)
  • 10km Run
  • 5km Run
  • 2.2km Kids Run
Is the course flat?

Yes. All courses are predominantly flat and follow riverfront pathways, making them suitable for runners, joggers and walkers.

Is this a good event for beginners?

Absolutely. With multiple distances, flat terrain and a supportive race-day atmosphere, Run the River is ideal for first-time runners as well as experienced athletes.

Are walkers allowed?

Yes. Walkers are welcome in the 5km and 10km events and in the Half Marathon provided they can finish within the event cut-off times.

What are the cut-off times?

Cut-off times are designed to be generous and inclusive:

  • Half Marathon: Suitable for runners and walkers
  • 10km & 5km: Open courses with inclusive time allowances
  • Kids Run: No cut-off time

Exact cut-off times will be confirmed closer to event day.

Will the course be closed to the public?

The course runs on shared pathways. While sections will be marshalled and clearly marked, participants should be aware that the course may remain open to the public and should follow all marshal and volunteer instructions.

Will there be water or aid stations?

Yes. Aid stations will be located along the course for the Half Marathon and 10km events. The 5km and Kids Run will have access to hydration at the finish area.

Is the event timed?

The Half Marathon, 10km and 5km events are professionally timed. The 2.2km Kids Run is untimed.

Do participants receive a finisher medal?

Yes. All finishers will receive an official finisher medal.

Can I run with a pram or stroller?

Prams and strollers are welcome in the 5km and 2.2km Kids Run. Due to course flow and safety, prams are not permitted in the Half and 10km races.
